Not everyone in DFW was glued to their TV screens this cool night in October to watch the Rangers lose in game 7 of the World Series. Some of us were glued to the TV screens as we watched our virtual Spartans and Elites get blown to bits over and over again. Not that we have anything against baseball. In fact, we hope the Rangers shoot lots of touchdowns in game 8 (it's a borrowed joke, but fitting given our crowd).
Aside from stinklikeonion's sick wife (aka mypooflingers) being sequestered in the other room, this was about like any other Halo Night. WhiteNoise486 slaughtered everyone like livestock, Riley Craven screamed like a girl a lot, Zamurai 278 complained about not making the website, Rambiant made ridiculous improvements to the O'Brien trophy (adding sound-activated lights this time), and mushashi took it home at the end of the night. So, pretty much par for the course.
That said, we did try a new beta version of the Mush Pit map stinklikeonion had been working on. Introducing some new hallways and explosives, it was slightly reminiscent of the old Boom custom map on Halo 3. We started with a solid round of King of the Hill, learning that WhiteNoise486 doesn't actually have to get all (or really any) of the points to still seem to win. Then we had a round of Slayer on the new map as well, and it seemed eerily similar.
We also did a round of Infection on The Venetian, a custom map we found online and have played countless slayer matches on. We were a bit thrown off by the color treatment apparently present when playing Infection game types, but the map did present some interesting dynamics. The rock outcroppings became high grounds to defend king-of-the-mountain style, and stinklikeonion found a dark corner to hide from the zombies within.
