Despite having a few regulars out for a wedding, we had another seven-player Halo Night this summer. One of our newest regulars brought his brother-in-law for his first exposure to Halo (or even an Xbox 360), and it took him a while to get the hang of things. It didn't stop him from getting in a few good kills, though. The night was full of epic moments and extreme competition. And "your mom" jokes.
We had an epic Team Slayer on Vehicle Fun 2.0 that saw some intense moments on both sides despite a pretty one-sided score. At one point, a powerhouse onslaught consisting of two wraiths and a banshee was stopped dead in its tracks by a single laser blast from Riley Craven. A combination that stood a good chance of decimating the team was dropped down to a lone banshee in a quick moment.
One of the closest matches of the evening was a simple round of Slayer on Ephasus, a Foundry variant we've played a few times before. What started as a pretty normal match became an all-out, no-holds-barred, trash-talking four-way battle for the win. The final moments were intense as four players had 24 of the needed 25 kills, but a careless stinklikeonion was outmaneuvered by Riley Craven allowing for an easy kill for the win.
With a night as intense as this, and with an odd-but-almost-effectively-even number of players, what better way to finish the night than with some Grifball? After an intensely close round in the classic Foundry-based Griffball arena, we followed up with a rematch in the wider Sandbox variant. Score one game for red, and one game for blue. And lots of dead orange bodies everywhere. Poor Grif.
