The Next Halo Night
left until the next Halo Night
December 12, 2008

We had a lot of wives attending Masterpiece, leaving some of our regular players at home, watching kids. But SaltNurI brought two new guys, darris and a helpless girl (and some great gumbo, for that matter), so it ended up being five people.

Early in the night, Riley Craven accomplished a double laser on Divided We Fall, taking out stinklikeonion on a ghost and one of the newcomers, darris, who had come down from above to hammer away on a nearby Wraith. Then he finished what he started, unloading a second hit on the tank that was more than a mere glancing blow.

sneaky_laserIn a round of The Gauntlet, SaltNurI took up camp in one of the upper rooms, getting in a few easy kills on stinklikeonion, who eventually caught on. It didn't help though, since he still managed to get lasered when coming up with a rocket launcher to take out the happy camper.

hammertimeThen the group tried out a new game type, Things Unseen, where active camo and overshields are on the house. With increased speed and hammers flying everywhere, the game turned out to be more chaos than strategy, with luck (or bad luck) determining most outcomes.

grifballMoving on to something else new, we played three mismatched (since we had an odd number of players) rounds of Grifball, only to discover that it's actually quite fun. In each match of three vs. two, no matter who the two were, the game ended predictably with a win on the "three" column. We can definitely expect to play again in coming Halo Nights, though we probably won't be joining any leagues anytime soon.

rocket_collisionAnd in the final match of rockets on Construct, stinklikeonion and SaltNurI pulled off a mid-air rocket collision. Like any rockets match, it was too fast-paced to really be sure it really happened, but instant replay confirmed it.

All in all, it was a lot of fun. The two new guys held their own, and, as has been the case lately, Riley Craven won the most matches.
